Another Report

So here’s another report from real-world writing.
Scrolling through social media, it seems that lots of folks are winning awards and signing big contracts and gazing at gigantic displays of their books.
Good on you all!
This is not my experience. I’m noodling away at home, adding a paragraph here and there, crossing out some of what I wrote earlier, drinking coffee, and listening to ambient music and (a totally different thing) my grandkid not wanting to go to bed. Reading, replenishing my frig and pantry, chatting with pals, and waiting.
Waiting.
I’ve never carried a gun. I’ve never worn camouflage (unless you count the wide-lapel blue blazer that convinced my summer employer I cared about ministry initiatives). Hell, I haven’t thrown a punch since I was 9 years old. But from what I read, war is boredom interspersed with frenzied activity. That’s my experience of publishing.
Mel’s and my Bible camp book is still with the editor. Kevin’s and my graphic novel is with my agent.
Waiting.
I’m sure that in a month or so I’ll be buried in edits and rewrites. Meanwhile, I am waiting. And trying not to be distracted by life.
My next post may be about caring about the election (I do, I do) and not losing perspective.
