Latest update on Camp FUNdament.

Nothing new.

Erin is officially going over the rewrite. She will pay attention to continuity: camp landmarks, characters’ size and colouring and handed-ness, days of the week -- stuff like that. Not just because there are two writers. Continuity issues are part of every edit. (I once forgot that my hero was blind. My then editor pointed out that Charlie couldn’t possibly see what he was describing, and suggested I put a post-it note on my monitor to remind me. “If I’m in Charlie’s headspace, I won’t be able to see the note,” I said. She did not reply.)

Of course Erin will spend most of her time worrying about pace and character arc and narrative smoothness and plot tension -- big stuff like that. But I expect a number of comments about Kyle’s red hair black hair brown hair glasses no glasses cane allergies muscles no muscles and varying sexual and gender identifications.

“Kyle is a universal hero in whom everyone can see themselves!” I’ll say.

Erin will not reply.
